For the 2012-2013 season, there are two grant programs that apply to rookie FIRST Tech Challenge teams that form with one or more team members that participated in FIRST LEGO League.
http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/ftc/grow
The 1st program "FIRST Graduation Grants" provides a waiver of the FTC Team registration fee ($275) as well as $300 towards parts and materials.
The 2nd program "LEGO Foundation Grant" provides $100 per FLL graduate (max of $300 per team) towards an FTC Competition kit.
Teams can apply for either or both of these grants!
The 1st program requires teams to have an affiliation with a non-profit that will accept the funds on the team's behalf.
Playing At Learning is willing to provide this affiliation to NorCal FTC teams, subject to a few conditions:
- Teams that are applying for the grant and wanting Playing At Learning's support must send a short email to ftc@playingatlearning.org including the team name/number and complete contact information for an adult coach.
- Teams must agree to provide Playing At Learning a signed W-9 form for the designated recipient of the check.
- Teams must complete a Playing At Learning re-granting form (form will be published shortly)
We are hopeful that many of our graduating FLL students will find creative ways to take advantage of this grant opportunity!

We are excited to let you know that Team Registration is open for the 2012 Maker Faire FTCquel ! Maker Faire is a weekend commitment! It is May 18-20 at San Mateo Fairgrounds. Setup and robot inspection is required starting at Friday afternoon and teams will participate in matches throughout the weekend - and help with packout on Sunday. We will include time "off" for both Saturday and Sunday for teams to go out and enjoy Maker Faire - it is crazy fun. Your $125 Team Registration includes weekend entry for team members (up to 4 student team members) plus 1 adult mentor or coach. Also, includes 1 weekend parking pass as well as shirts and pins for each person. You will be able to add additional team members and additional adults in the payment section. In addition, we will need a signed Maker Faire release form from all team members and adults participating and we will need names of everyone participating. Note that we have set registration to 18 teams and will know soon if we can add 6 more teams (depends on how much space that the Maker folks will give us for teams). To register: http://www.playingatlearning.org/FTC/MakerReg/Maker_Registration.php To pay: http://www.playingatlearning.org/FTC/MakerReg/pay_MF.html Teams that register (and pay) before May 1st will receive an individual, custom Maker Faire commemorative "Maker Poster".
Not sure what Maker Faire is all about - check out their website at http://makerfaire.com/bayarea/2012/ |
